This includes both military and humanitarian efforts. The United States has been increasing the amount of troops being sent to Afghanistan in range to drive the enemy out of populated sectors. This increased military presence cost a lot of money as well as American lives in order to fight this invisible enemy. Obama has also been trying to recreate republic in Iraq.
